Hossein Rahnama is a visiting professor at the Human Dynamics and Changing Places groups at the MIT Media Lab. He is also an assistant professor at the RTA School of Media and the Co- Founder/Director of Research at the federally funded Ryerson Centre for Cloud and Context Aware Computing (Rc4) in Toronto/Canada. His research combines artificial intelligence, mobile human-computer interaction and the effective design of persuasive contextual services on the Internet. In 2012, he was recognized by the MIT Technology Review as one of the Top Innovators under the age of 35 (TR35) for his research in self- adaptive computing. The Smithsonian named Hossein as one of the top six innovators to watch in 2013, and he won the Motorola Golden Idea Innovation award in the same year. Hossein has 25 publications and 10 patents in ubiquitous computing. He served as a Council Member at the National Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada and is currently serving on the board of the Canadian Science Publishing (CSP). His research spin-off company, Flybits, received venture funding from Vodafone Ventures and Bosch Ventures in 2014, and in 2015 became one of Deloitte’s Fast 50 companies to watch. Hossein is also the co-founder of Ryerson DMZ, which in 2015 became the number #1 university business incubator in North America and #3 in the world by the Swedish UBI Index.
