Michael Lin is currently a PhD student and a Research Assistant at the MIT Media Lab, Changing Places group. His main focus area is on the design and fabrication of the future mobility system. He is currently working on the design of a modularized, lightweight, peddle assist electric vehicle.
Michael received his Bachelor of Architecture from Feng-Chia University Architecture department in Taiwan. After joining the MIT family in 2005, Michael earned his first MIT master degree in Architecture and Urbanism focusing on the urban mobility issues and electric vehicle designs. Michael received his second MIT master degree in Media Arts and Science from the MIT Media Lab Smart Cites group focusing the fabrication and prototyping of a foldable electric scooter, RoboScooter, which was successful demonstrated at the Milan Motor show 2008. Prior to his currently PhD research, Michael lead an IF 2011 design award winning project, GreenWheel. GreenWheel is an electric propulsion system which intergrade the lithium ion battery pack and a DC motor together and could be bolted on any existing bicycles.
